Do you have to speak Chinese to fly for Singapore Airlines

Do you have to speak Chinese to fly for Singapore Airlines?
Or do you have to live in Singapore/Asia? Or do they hire pilots in the US? Specifically, how do they hire pilots? Because they only have wide body aircraft. Do pilots go to them after they have had a lot of flying experience?

1) no you don't have to speak Chinese to fly on Singapore airlines because they fly all over the world and that would be rude to say: "ok! if you don't know Chinese , then you cant fly with us! sorry to bad!" 2) no you don't have to live in Singapore/Asia to fly on Singapore Airlines 3) i don't know where they hire there pilots from but i think it would be easier to apply for a job for them if you lived in Singapore. Although i do know that pilots and control tower people from every airport on the globe have to speak English to each other no matter what on their frequency so it might be easier to become a pilot if you know english. Also , like you said since they only operate wide body aircraft, you probably dont have much of a chance if you have flown dc-9s your whole life as apposed to flying 747s your whole life.

As mandaited by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) the universal language is english. You must be able to speak, read, write, and understand it.

You don't need to know Chinese, all talk from the airplane to the tower is in English. You don't need to live in Singapore, because you could fly the LAX-SIN route and live in Los Angeles. You would have maybe a higher chance of being hired if you had some experience, but I believe that you could be hired if you're new to flying.

You must have Singaporean or Malaysian citizenship to fly for Singapore Airlines. You don't need to speak Chinese. Although most Singaporeans are of Chinese descent Malay is the national language and practically everybody is fluent in English. "Chinese' is actually a group of languages. When referring to speaking Chinese you need to specify a dialect. Standard Mandarin is one of the official languages of Singapore. Most American Chinese speak Cantonese. Many Chinese dialects are unintelligible to each other.
