I'm guessing that you're from Hong Kong. It is expensive to live here but it might not be far from where you live now. Public housing (also known as HDB flats) is generally cheaper than private apartment/condo. The HDB flats are apartments built by the government and sold to Singaporeans at a subsidised price. Rental can range from S$1000 to S$3500 monthly, it depends of size and location. It'll be cheaper if you just rent a room instead. Food cost is rising but eating out 3 meals a day can still cost you no more than S$15 a day i.e. coffee shop/hawker food stalls/food courts only. Transport via public bus and MRT (ours is named MRT) will probably cost you between S$300 to S$500 monthly. Taking taxis has become a luxury of late. Misc stuff like utility bills, phone/internet bills and personal stuff can set you back a further S$600 to S$800 a month (I'm a guy thus I shop less). Lastly, you'll need to socialize, this means the occasional restaurant/pub/club and late nite taxi ride home etc. Might wanna set aside S$1000 if you're out once a week. By my estimates, you'll need a monthly 'take home' pay of S$5000 to be comfortable here. Cheers!
