What is it like to live in Singapore for teenagers

What is it like to live in Singapore for teenagers?
How good is the education system? Is it expensive to live there? What is there to do? What are the laws about bringing pets into the country if you are migrating there? Anything else there is to know?

Singapore is a pretty modern and wired nation, however it is almost like a police state in terms of it's extremely agressive enforcing of it's laws. Typical teenage things like experimenting with drugs have dire consequences there, possession is a crime punishable by execution. Hanging, more specifically.

RIngo is exagerating. Those punishments are reserve for those over 18. There was a big todo about a Michael Fay leading a group of American Kids in a vandalism spree. He got caned for that. THe others were released, but Maichaels fay was punished because he was the only adult in the group RUles are expected to be followed rigidly. It is a very safe place. There Education is good. I think it might get boring quickly, since its a small country.

Education system is excellent but very stressful. S'pore-Cambridge A Levels cover university stuff as well, so your first year in university will be a breeze, if you're going to a local uni, as you would have already learnt part of the university syllabus. (This does depend on the subject you take in university, but this is usually true for the sciences). Not really that expensive to live there if you're not the high-maintenance type. Things to do as a teenager: Study, study, study & study! There are also a lot of opportunities for community service & sports (especially sea sports like sailing). Dunno abt laws for pets. You probably have to check up with the authorities for that.

1. Education in Singapore among world's best 2. Fairly expensive among the top Asian cities 3. Every country has laws pertaining to imported animals/pets 4. Shopping Malls galore, gourmet paradise, theme parks aplenty, ethnic festivals... etc 5. Hit the Singapore Tourism Board website

I am an expat living in Singapore. The education system is excellent by all standards. However, you have to remember that excellence is achieved by hard work. Yes, you will have homework. If I was a parent of a teenager I would be happy to have them in school here. The country is extremely safe by just about any standard. They are super tough on drugs. (yippee!!) I'm in favor of this obviously. Also smokes and alcohol are VERY expensive. Welcome to the world of clean living. There is plenty of night life, and lots of things for teens to do here. The locals are nice and very accepting of foreigners. You will totally enjoy your time here and by the way the food is great! The rest of Asia is very close and for minimal cash you can see many other countries. As for pets, your animal will probably have to go into quarantine if it comes from an area where there is rabies. You can however, get home quarantine. Of course this will cost money and everything in Singapore needs to be approved with stamps and bureaucracy. I don't know where you live now, but it is slightly cheaper to live here that the US. Sort of... Eating local- Way cheaper Eating Western- Slightly More Booze/Cigs- Way more Taxi ride- Way less Bus/Subway-cheap and efficient Housing- Way More It's a fabulous country to visit and if you get the chance, jump at it. You won't be sorry. Except that the homework is going to suck! Best of luck to you.
