I wanted to know what is it like to live in Singapore. Is the cost of living there really expensive? Is it difficult to get a job there? What do they feel about foreigners living there (Americans)? What is the weather like? How is the economy doing? I hear it is doing much better than the US! Do people in Singapore live a difficult life financially? Are people there happy and content with life? Any info would really be helpful!!!

Fantastic. I can`t possibly put in all the wonderful things in words for you to read. Cost of living, cheaper than in US. Job, no problem if you are a professional holding a degree. Foreigners treatment, no problem if you don`t behave like Micheal Fay. Weather, summer year round. Economy, good better than US as you put it. Financially, more than 80% of Singaporean owned ther own home. Happy Singaporean, no reason not to as life is pretty safe as compared to your home town. No shooting etc.etc. Just pack your bags and come see for yourself then decide whether you want to make Singapore your home.

I went to the american school, and there were so many americans The weather is always hot, humid, and rainy And everyone there is happy. It's a pretty relaxing life

Are people there happy and content with life? - Definately not for most. and its not really expensive nor hard to get a job if you have a good ertificate(degree or higher)... taking the public transport can really suck when it gets really crowded..its just a situation you wouldnt wanna be in. but out of everything, i would say that the only good thing would be the food they have here...

i am not a s'porean but i had lived there for 9 years. It's a very efficient, systematic, clean and tidy country. (You won't understand the word "efficient" until you have seen it in S'pore !). Cost of living, is above average. If you have a good paid job, it's great. If not, u need a bit of struggling. Ownership of car is very expensive, which you don't really need bcos the public transports are VERY efficient. Private housing are very expensive. But the government HDB flat are much cheaper. S'pore is a fair countr. The wages/salaries are determined by the market without government interruption - as long as you have the ability (and efficient), you should able to find a job (regardless of race or other issues). Economic is of cos better than a lot of countries - due to its efficient government monetary policies and other policies. Singaporean and their financial status : it's a very competitive country, there is no much social benefit provided. Thus, everyone are racing against each other to strive for the top position. Buying massive life / medical insurances are necessity. Are they happy ? i am not sure. They seems like very happy people (bcos they are proud of the efficient government and the great economic), but from a foreigner point of view, they might not - due to the stress in work, the competition, the tiny little living area... (not quite happy to me). But as long as you are going for a job - not for life, i would say it's a great experience. A 5 years job in S'pore equal to a 10 yrs (or more) work experience in many other countries. The best thing you'd learnt is to be efficient. The children (from 10~16) who migrated with their parants from S'pore to here (where i am now staying), ALL of them are top students in the class here. Their top-student position won't change until they 'adopt' to the local students' study attitude...

Life can be stressful here, and almost nobody knows what the hell is depression or how the hell does it feel here, so if you're used to laid back life, you're going to suffer here. Otherwise, you'll probably do well here with a bit of positive thinking. Cost of living is only climbing up and up; there's no end to it. So if you get a well paid job you won't have to worry. There are plenty of jobs here, but PLEASE APPLY FOR ONE ONLINE BEFORE YOU ARRIVE, because Singapore's going to consume your money before you can get one. We have no grudges/racism against Americans; in fact some 'traditional' Singaporeans like westerners more than their own people, thinking that they are 'rich', 'wise' and all that, but at the end of the day meritocracy still wins, so if you're able you're truly recognised. The weather can be burning hot at times (70F-90F; though not as hot as the deserts) but during the frequent rains temperature drops abit. The majority of Singaporeans don't have a financially difficult life, but the no. of those who do are increasing as the cost of living is rising forever. If you ask me about my life, I'm better off living in Canada where life is slower but currently I can say that I'm 70% happy and contented with my life here. Obviously others, especially the more well-to-do people, are happier, since this place is also the land of opportunities for all, and they go through pressure with ease.

Food prices have risen slightly, but it's manageable. Cost of living (3meals and transport by mrt-2-way) averagely costs about $26-35 a day. I dont think its diff to get a job here if u posess good qualifications/experience. Economy is stable and looking up. most people dont live a difficult life, our government gives the poor money. Most people i believe would want an easier life, because for many, work is the top priority and exercise, hobbies, personal enjoyment comes second because we all want to earn more money. Of course, i speak very generally..... our take on foreigners is that they rob us of jobs otherwise singaporeans could have filled.
