I'm currently planning a move out of the US in the forthcoming years. These are my options. Please help. I'm of Indian descent so I'm a bit concerned about Australia.

The Philippines is the hot country to move to now days. If you are retired and have a monthly income you can live very well. More and more people are leaving this country for a better life. The Philippines is by far the best in my opinion.

How much money do you have? Do you have a family? If I were single with not a lot of money I would go to Singapore. It is inexpensive and full of culture but not the best place for a family. If I had a family I would choose either Australia, or New Zealand. I just really like the people there and the countries are beautiful. UK would be pretty cool because you would have easy access to travel to the different countries in Europe. You could expierence tons of history and many different cultures. Honk Kong. I never been. The only complaint that I can have without never have been there is that the city is really congested. Lots of people with lots of traffic.

I only know about the UK, we have a tolerant attitude towards the peoples of Indian decent because of commonwealth ties and a large Hindu and Muslim community (depending on which one you are, if any and in which case a lot of nonbelievers here too). I hope you would pick the UK it's just so diverse and there is a lot of opportunity to be had as the country is looking for innovators at the moment, we need creative minds to help create a new competitive UK as we are falling behind our competitors too much.

I am Singaporean and I tell you not to move to Singapore, unless you've prepared for it by stockpiling a lot of cash. The costs of living are very high, finding a house would be hard, since the prices are insane and the property market here is seeing skyrocketing flat valuations. Similarly for Hong Kong, the place is smaller than Singapore but has much more people. The place has incredible human and vehicular traffic, and some of the apartment buildings I've seen are small and grubby. It's well known that the flats there are very tightly squeezed together. The costs of living are also some of the highest in Asia. I and my three other family members went on an MTR ride from Luohu (on the border with Shenzhen) into Kowloon, and it cost us about HK$135. The UK, I don't believe that would be too good either. The weather there might not be suitable, seeing as many parts of it are habitually cold and/or humid. The economic situation there, I'm not confident about that, and the high pound valuation might mean less bang for your buck. However, there are lots of emigres there of Indian, Pakistani or Bangladeshi origin. I'm not sure about Australia or New Zealand however, but I am somewhat concerned about the 'fortress' mentality that Australia has adopted under PM Gillard toward foreigners. However, I have relatives living there, and my second cousins too, and they've never complained in their decade and a half there. We're ethnic Chinese by the way, so we're Asians too. In conclusion, the decision lies with you, and your family, if they are accompanying you. Any place is liveable so long as there water and food and shelter, and it only depends on the settler to make the place liveable for himself. I haven't thought of other places, however - what about Canada? Or even the Bahamas? Well wishes to you.
