it depends, if you want to live in the city area you would need more but if you want to live in the pasir ris or punggol area it would need lesser. and there are also 2 types of apartment, the condo and hdb. usually hdb are dirty and unsafe but as there are new hdb which are nice, sometimes new hdbs have swimming pool also. so, for five you would need about S$7000 or more

It all boils down to life-style. The defination of 'comfortably' would be subjective. For instance, weekends spent at beaches and parks (a healthier alternative) rather than at shopping malls would save quite a bit. I could mention a few more alternatives but that would not be answering your question. $2500 in a household of five, would be average, I'd opine.

The median salary in Singapore is S$2300. To live comfortably and to dine in foodcourts, restaurants and have lessons for the children, is at least S$5000 a month. To live more comfortably, S$7000 is recommended. Happiness does not really depend on the amount of money one earns. There are unhappy rich people and there are happy poor people. One has to manage his expectations in Singapore.

I can live comfortably with $800 a month. So for a family of 5, you'll need $4000. This does not include housing loan, car loan or if you consider shopping regularly as comfortable.
