Where to live in Singapore

Where to live in Singapore?
I'm exploring the possibility of moving from the US to work in Singapore for a year or so. I am in my late 20's -- what are some good areas to live for single working professionals? (close to nightlife, etc)

first of all make sure you secure some kind of a place to work for because the regulations on foreign staff r different than in any other country. But in terms of accomodation, tanjong pagar is nice its quite close to night life, river valley seems to be full of foreigners and close to night life as well, dhoby ghaut is perfect spot if you can find something there, its close to nightlife, shopping and etc. wherever you go try to stick to orchard road or Clark quay, around those areas you'll be fine.

The country is very small (you can actually walk from east to west :-). No matter where you live, as long as there is bus or MRT, you will be fine. The transport system is d#mn good there. No worry.

Seriously, you dont need to live close to nightlife because most parts of s'pore is super easily accessible via mrt, and taxis/cabs take only about 20-45mins approx to just about anywhere. I personally think it's more fun for u (if you're adventurous enough) to just rent a room or flat in a hdb in Tampines area (http://www.ttc.org.sg/), or any other hdb estates for that matter. That way, you can live like any other singaporean and discover the delicacies & food areas nearby....Why i suggest tampines is because it's got a gym, pool, 3 shopping centres and lots more...

I would recommend places which are centrally located like Ang Mo Kio, Bishan or Toa Payoh.
