There are many English speakers but if you're talking to hawkers at a food court or usually senoir citizens, they speak Chinese, hokkien, maybe Tamil. Well, in Singapore, we speak many languages. But usually its Singlish which is just bad English with Malay and Hokkien thrown in. Email me if you really want more details. I live in Singapore

As Singapore is a south east asian country, it means that alot of different races migrated to this island a longgg time ago. hence, our country is made up of the four main races, such as the Chinese, Malay , Indian and Eurasian communities. As with our language, our first language is English. Second language will be our mother tongue. For example, if you are a chinese, you would speak and learn mandrin in school. And Malays will speak Malay, Indians Tamil and Eurasians, depending on which country you come from. As the term Eurasian can mean all the way from America to European Countries. I am a Singaporean Chinese, which means that in school, I learn and speak English, but during mother tongue class, I would attend Mandrin lessons :) I hope this answers your question!
